Welcome to UK Jewish Film’s exciting, new, intergenerational teaching and learning resource Hackney Roots. Designed to be used in the classroom, youth club or simply at home with your family, the activities are based on carefully chosen film clips, still images and other stimulus material portraying Jewish life in Hackney and the East End.
Central to the project is a focus on intergenerational conversation and how film can capture and represent these dialogues. We hope Hackney Roots will inspire you to experiment with film as a way to create meaning, as stimulus to developing your critical, analytical skills and as a mode of personal, creative expression.
Educators’ Notes highlight curriculum relevance and offer guidance to using Hackney Roots with young people.
We welcome your feedback on Hackney Roots so whether you’re a teacher, a youth worker or a young person, please let us know what you think as your views will help to inform further development of this and other UKJF education projects.
